The 46-year-old actor played nurse Martin Platt in Corrie for 21 years, but left in 2005 and set up the Saddleworth Cheese Company four years later, winning a hat trick at the British Cheese Awards in his first year.
Now his medium-soft blue cheese, Smelly Apeth, has been named the best blue cheese in silver foil at the World Cheese Awards at Birmingham’s NEC.
Sean told the Daily Star Sunday: “I am delighted it did so well and beat so many other great cheeses from around the world.
“I only entered it at the last minute after I tasted a batch and realised it was absolutely gorgeous.”
It was revealed earlier this year that Sean is planning his TV comeback with a show that will see him tour Britain, charting the history of cheese-making.
The show, which has been piloted under the name Cheez Rockers, is scheduled to air on Channel 4 early next year.
