Scott Pelley Katie Couric, Rumors spread that Scott Pelley can take over for Katie Couric as the new host of “CBS Evening News.” Word broke earlier this week that Couric may leave the network at the end of her contract this summer pursue a new show of hers.
According to a new report from TMZ.com, is the first choice Pelley of CBS News president Jeff Fager. Pelley appears regularly on “60 Minutes” and, according to the site, found an ally in Fager.
Various sources have reported that Couric has already begun to develop a new program and has interest from several networks. “Nightly News” on CBS has fallen behind in their competition ratings since Couric took over five years ago and Couric says its just part of the company.
“I think we were in third place for 13 years before I came here,” she recently told The New York Times. “And I think that habits, especially with evening newscast, made at a glacial pace. And I think the local news stations have something to do with it.”
