Scorsese ‘The Gambler’, The duo has become as sure a bet as any team of actor and director in Hollywood, but for their next project together, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio might be going gambling.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scorsese is signing on to direct a remake of the 1974 James Caan-starring drama, “The Gambler,” about an English teacher from New York who, despite his legendary work in the classroom suffers from a gambling addiction secret.
The film follows the rabbit hole of addiction, and his mother who extorts and students point shaving in basketball forces to help pay his debt.
DiCaprio is the star Scorese chosen, though he still has not committed to the project. If and when it does sign on the dotted line will be the fifth film of the couple together. They began their run in 2002 with “Gangs of New York”, passing “The Aviator,” “The Departed” and “Shutter Island.”
DiCaprio will next be seen in the title role in the direction of Clint Eastwood, “Edgar J.,” the biography of former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, and is currently filming “The Great Gatsby” great 3D adaptation of Baz Luhrmann, which again plays the title role.
As for Scorsese, who ventures into the land of 3D and children’s films for his next film, the magical “Hugo”? Soon to release his HBO documentary about George Harrison, and is in pre-production on “Silence”, the 17th-century thriller that re-teams with his “Gangs of New York” star Daniel Day Lewis, and Gael Garc? A Bernal.
Scorsese and DiCaprio are also rumored to work together in “Sinatra”, a biography of the famous singer.
