Schwarzenegger Separation, Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife, Maria Shriver, have separated; with Shriver leave his mansion in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles while the two determine the next step in their marriage of 25 years.
Shriver has been living outside the actor-turned-politician in recent weeks. The former first couple confirmed the separation in a joint statement released on Monday after the Los Angeles Times raised questions.
“This was a time of great personal and professional transition of each of us,” the statement said. “After a lot of thought, reflection, discussion and prayer, we come to this decision together. At this point, we are living apart, while working on the future of our relationship.
“We are parents to our four children. They are light and the center of both of our lives.” We consider this a private matter and neither we nor any of our friends and family will have further comment. “We call for compassion and respect for the media and the public.”
Over the years, the marriage of the couple has been under close surveillance, especially during the retreat of 2003, California Governor Gray Davis, when the Times reported on Schwarzenegger’s long history of groping women. At that time, Shriver defended her husband, helping to lift them to victory in freedom for all competition.
From Schwarzenegger’s office on the left, it looked as if they lived separate lives.
