Saturday Night LiveSaturday Night Live, A bizarre story from Winnipeg landed smack in the middle of a Saturday Night Live episode over the weekend.

The TV sketch-comedy institution featured a story about a recent deadly shooting during its Weekend Update parody news segment on Saturday.

“A woman in Canada who was shot in the eye during a New Year’s Eve party refused medical attention until she finished her beer,” host Seth Meyers announced, before delivering his zinger. “She’s what’s known in Canada as a ‘keeper.’ ”

The story was first reported in the Jan. 5 edition of the Winnipeg Free Press.

The woman was the victim of a shooting at a house that also killed 46-year-old Michael Warren Sinclair. When paramedics arrived, the 30-year-old woman was heavily impaired by alcohol or drugs, and asked to finish her drink before being rushed to the hospital.

The woman remained in hospital last week, but was in stable condition and expected to survive. No arrests have been made in the case.

The story has made international headlines since first being reported.
