Sargent Shriver, (AFP) – Sargent Shriver, the veteran politician who worked with his brother John F. Kennedy and was later vice-presidential candidate, was hospitalized near the capital of the United States, the hospital said Monday.

Ronna Borenstein suburb of Bethesda, Md., said the 95-year-old Shriver was hospitalized, but gave no further details.

Shriver was married to Eunice Kennedy Shriver, sister of the assassinated President Kennedy. She died in 2009 at age 88.

Shriver was the first director of the Peace Corps, an idea that he directed.

In 1972, Shriver has been tapped as running mate for Democratic candidate George McGovern presidential after Senator Thomas Eagleton files the ticket.

Children understand Shriver Maria Shriver, wife of former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
