Santa Letters Elves

December 6, 2011 by staff

Santa Letters Elves, Letters addressed to Santa Claus are once again pouring into the U.S. post office and starting Tuesday morning (Dec. 6) the public is invited to dig through them. Individuals, business and coroporations can go to the Santa Ana district office and rummage through the wish lists and letters from boys and girls throughout the county.

Many of the children are from poor families and ask for things like jobs for their dads. Others ask for toys and clothes. If you choose a letter, post office employees will photocopy it for you to take home. You can then shop for the child on the list and return to the post office with the items.

Postal employees then match your letter up with the address they have on file (this is no longer made public as it has been in the past). You pay the postage, and they send along your package.

Operation Santa is a tradition that began back in 1912 under Postmaster General Frank Hitchcck.

Operation Santa hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday Dec. 8, as well as Tuesday Dec. 13 and Thursday Dec. 15 at 3101 W. Sunflower Ave in Santa Ana. Call 714-662-6227 for more information.
