Sacha Baron Cohen Oscars, He’s no stranger to taking his passion for his roles to the extreme. But it seems his latest planned stunt may have backfired on him as Sacha Baron Cohen has been blacklisted from hitting the red carpet at this year’s Oscars.
The 40-year-old comic has reportedly had his tickets to this Sunday’s 84th Academy Awards ceremony recalled after fears that he would arrive as his new movie character The Dictator.
The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences flexed their muscles and gave the order after rumours circulated that the Bruno star would break the etiquette of Hollywood’s biggest night by promoting his film on the red carpet.
A source told Deadline.com: ‘Unless they’re assured that nothing entertaining is going to happen on the Red Carpet, the Academy is not admitting Sacha Baron Cohen to the show.’
The actor had planned to walk the red carpet at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles this Sunday night as General Aladeen before changing into a normal tuxedo for the rest of the ceremony.
A spokesperson for the Academy told Deadline.com: ‘We would hope that every studio knows that this is a bad idea. The Red Carpet is not about stunting.’
It wouldn’t be the first time Baron Cohen has attended an awards ceremony in character.
In 2005, the actor attended the MTV Europe Music Awards dressed as arguably his most famous character Borat.
And then in 2009, he attended the MTV Movie Awards as Bruno, his flamboyant Austrian fashion reporter alter ego.
