Ryan Dunn Passenger, Zachary Hartwell, the passenger in “Jackass” star Ryan Dunn Porsche, who was killed by Dunn in a car accident outside Philadelphia, Monday morning was 30-year-old veteran of the Iraq war.
Dunn and Hartwell were killed in West Goshen Township near Philadelphia when Dunn Porsche left the road and in the forest. According to RadarOnline, the two men died of “brute force and thermal trauma” and died at the scene by the time emergency crews arrived.
Police said the vehicle’s speed was a factor in the accident.
The passenger in the fatal car crash that also killed “Jackass” star Ryan Dunn early Monday was a friend of Zachary Hartwell, authorities said.
Hartwell, who served in Iraq as a Navy SEAL and was recently married, was a friend of all the “Jackass” crew and worked as a production assistant on the second film. He also lived in West Chester, Pa., near Dunn and “Jackass” co-stars Bam Margera. In fact, Dunn and Hartwell just 100 meters from the exit ramp leading to the house of Hartwell, when it crashed, reports NBC.
Both had been in a bar in the hours before the accident, E! News reports. Hartwell was one of the two friends photographed drinking with Dunn, Dunn Twitter photo, but has since retired. Toxicology tests are pending, but police say the high speed may have been a contributing factor to the crisis. Dunn was arrested for DUI in 2005, but entered a diversion program to record cleared after getting into trouble, a Chester County prosecutor says RadarOnline.com.
Meanwhile, Roger Ebert movie credit has said he regrets Twitter “Friends do not let drinking and driving donkeys” Monday afternoon. He offered his condolences to the families of the men and said the tweet was “unseemly,” but also said: “I know that nobody has a business driving on public roads at 110 miles per hour, with some estimates – or fast enough, anyway, out of a road and fly through the trees 40 meters before crashing. This is especially true if the driver has had three shots and three beers. Two people were killed. What if the car crashed into another vehicle? “
