Rupees Eat by TERMITES, It was an all you can eat buffet in the bank. An army of termites ate 10 million rupees (and 222,000) in banknotes stored in a steel box at a bank, police in northern India, said on Friday.

The bank manager discovered the damage when he opened the reinforced room in a former bank building on Wednesday, the police officer Navneet Rana told The Associated Press.

“It’s a matter of investigating how termites attacked ticket packages stacked in a steel box,” he said. The money was placed in the chest in January.

The termites have damaged furniture and bank documents in the past.

The police have registered a case of negligence against officials of the bank in Barabanki, a town 20 miles (30 kilometers) southwest of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh state capital. In India, the police registered a case before the opening of an investigation.
