Roland Martin Suspended
February 9, 2012 by staff
Roland Martin Suspended, CNN’s Roland Martin watched the Super Bowl on Sunday night, like over 100 million Americans did. He also took to Twitter to share his comments about the game, like so many others. Unfortunately for him, his bosses at CNN were paying attention to his Twitter feed and they weren’t too happy about some homophobic remarks that he made.
Specifically, Martin commented about this David Beckham H&M underwear ad. His exact comments can be seen to the right.
CNN has decided to suspend Martin for the comment, following pressure from the gay rights organization GLAAD. There was some talk that he would be fired outright, but that will not be the case. At this time, it’s unclear when he will be back on the air.
In an official statement, CNN officials said that they found the Tweet seen above, as well as a few others, to be “regrettable and offensive.” CNN added, “[l]anguage that demeans is inconsistent with the values and culture of our organization, and is not tolerated.”
