Robyn Gardner ArubaRobyn Gardner Aruba, Maryland tourist Gary Giordano tried to redeem a 1.5 million insurance policy and its lack Robyn Gardner traveling companion shortly after his disappearance, according to a source from The Associated Press.

The source told the AP that Giordano 50 years old, bought the accidental death policy just before traveling to Aruba with 35 years of age, Gardner, Frederick, and Maryland. The policy only covers the trip to Aruba.

The source also says Giordano tried to rescue policy just two days after telling police that Gardner Aruba vanished while snorkeling.

Michael Lopez, a lawyer for Giordano Aruba, said the two Americans had been to Aruba a couple of days, when they decided to go diving on August 2, near an area known as Baby Beach. He said the couple finally realized they were being taken to sea by the current. That is, when Giordano played at Gardner’s leg to signal that they must swim back. When he reached the shore, Lopez says Giordano realized I was not with him and ran for help after looking for her in the water.

Giordano initially helped the search, but was arrested at the airport when trying to leave Aruba. Authorities said they found discrepancies in his story.

A judge ruled Monday that there is sufficient evidence to sustain Giordano for at least 16 days for his alleged involvement in the alleged death of Gardner.

The exact nature of his relationship with Gardner, who had a boyfriend back home in Maryland, is unclear, but prosecutors said the couple stayed in a room at a Marriott hotel in Aruba.

Aruba authorities are preparing a massive search of the Isle of evidence in the case Thursday. Also still looking for Gardner, who has been missing for more than two weeks?
