Rick Perry Kim Jong II
December 20, 2011 by staff
The email titled, “Gov. Rick Perry on the Death of Kim Jong II,” incorrectly referenced the dictator’s name three separate times; it was correctly spelled once in the second paragraph.
The incident was similar to a gaffe Rep. Rick Lazio made in his 2000 Senate race against Hillary Clinton, when the New York congressman made a speech about “Kim Jong the Second.”
The New Yorker notes that in his presidential campaign, George W. Bush also “mistook the third syllable of the late Kim’s name for a roman numeral and called him Kim Jong Two.”
