Rent Is Too Damn High Candidate Evicted, Apparently, your rent is too damn low. Jimmy McMillan, the 2010 New York gubernatorial candidate who founded the rent is too high Curse of the Party, says its owner is trying to get him out of his rent-controlled apartments in the Villa’s fashionable East Side of Manhattan in order to increase income.
The landlord has filed court papers to evict him, claiming that McMillan’s principal residence is located in Brooklyn, not Manhattan, and therefore should not continue to benefit from rent control, said McMillan.
“The case is unfounded,” said the outspoken activist, whose white mustache and sideburns-combination, black gloves and memorable soundbites during election debates last year made him a celebrity in New York.
“That’s my apartment. If I live there one day in years, that’s my business. If I stick my butt in the door and break the wind, if I stick my face in the window and burp, is your business.”
McMillan says the direction of Brooklyn serves as headquarters of his party and the apartment in San Marcos Place in conflict continues his residence. His son, who is unemployed, lives there, he said.
The building owner could not be reached for comment.
McMillan said he has rented the apartment from the 1970 and now pays a monthly rent of 872.96 and, despite his last three rent checks have been returned.
He said he has instructed his lawyer, whose name could not remember improvised, to file a counterclaim against the landlord.
