Reggie Garrett, Mustangs quarterback West Orange-Stark, was pronounced dead at Memorial Hermann Baptist-Orange at 9:30 pm on Friday evening, according to spokeswoman Mary Poole Hospital.

Quarterback-West Orange Mustang collapsed on the bench in first half against the Bulldogs Jasper Dan Hooks Stadium. He had just thrown his second hit of passage of the party giving them an advance of Mustang 21-0. People on the sidelines said he appeared to have had a crisis.

Garrett lay motionless on the bench Acadian Ambulance Service staff have retired his jersey, shoulder pads and facemask has been cut from the helmet. A hush fell on Dan Hooks Stadium as the Mustangs teammates took a knee and Garrett has been removed from the field.

The game continues to win 27-6, but before concluding what was hoped to be just a rumor of the death of Garrett was speaking in the stadium and soccer fields across the Southeast Texas.
The “rumor” was in fact true.

Garrett arrived at the emergency room and pronounced dead at 8:30 pm an hour later. An autopsy was ordered and the death is under investigation.

Garrett was a second-year university and starting quarterback Mustang team leader.
