Ray Bernard Penaranda, U.P. student Ray Bernard Pe?aranda’s chest must have burst with blood after it was stabbed by one of two motorcycle-riding holduppers. Shortly after 1 a.m. yesterday, he was declared dead on arrival at a Laguna hospital. Just last Wednesday, a HS freshman was tortured, raped then slain at the back of a junk shop in the same village.
The death of Pe?aranda, 19, BS Agriculture student at the University of the Philippines in Los Ba?os, just days after the rape-slay of Rocelle Geronda, 14, proved to be the last straw for Laguna provincial police director Senior Supt. Gilbert Cruz, who sacked the entire police force of Los Ba?os yesterday.
Both victims were killed in Bgy. Batong Malake.
Relieved from his post as Los Ba?os police chief was Supt. Dante Novicio, who is already under fire.
Cruz said he has designated Chief Insp. Conrad Sumongsong as Los Ba?os police officer-in-charge. The provincial police director has also farmed out to different police stations in the province previous members of the local police force.
An initial report received by Cruz showed that two motorcycle-riding suspects blocked the path of Pe?aranda and two of his unidentified companions while they were walking along F. O. Santos, Bgy. Batong Malake, past 1 p.m. yesterday.
After declaring a holdup, one of the suspects punched and stabbed Pe?aranda then fled with the other suspect.
Pe?aranda, who hailed from Tanay, Rizal, but stayed at a nearby apartment, was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital, Cruz added.
