Ralph Waldo Emerson

Ralph Waldo Emerson, “It’s one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson in place of birds and the breeze, I’ve been listening to chainsaws and hammers in the afternoon. Definitely not so relaxing, these sounds have their place as sawdust accumulates Art Festival – literally – for the summer program. This year, due to date’s prior inspection by the city, things seem to be greatly strengthened. When I look around the grounds, I almost think I could open June 1, construction is moving so fast.
As usual for us, Suzette Rosenthal partner and I have my husband and design of construction of the two booths combined. This year the pressure on him to end early for wanting out of an expedition to Montana. To do this, Mike took his childhood friend Jim, along with his friend from Montana, John. Put these three together to build the cabin and it definitely has a comedy team the likes of the Three Stooges – only called McKenna, Doty and Caslin.
What is really delicious, I think, is his total lack of arrogance about his own weaknesses and stupid mistakes. They are, in fact, the first to call “stupid” and in doing so, create a line of ptter that is pure comedy.
Several people have mentioned that I have walked on the website of our booth only to be stopped cold by the silly ptter. You have to love to start, I admit. Marty Gray – extraordinary artist – it is building near us stopped to say that “paint” and had to go home and tell your beautiful wife about it. They make me, too.
Our general manager, Tom Klingenmeier, repeated something he heard sounded like one of those “Who’s on first?” plays. Grounds Manager Dan Haeflinger has its own part in several of the stories added his own sense of ironic humor. Comedy Central, here they come!
Jim has been with us throughout the building and what gave me second-hand tales of the adventures of your day each night. The retelling is probably a close second to the events themselves. I’ve been laughing and smiling a lot lately, it seems, even at the end of a tiring day.
The ability to tell these stories in themselves and make such wonderful images of these stories is one of the things I like men in general, but these three really take the prize. Although I love the company of women, is a special gift for these three men around occasionally.
Sometimes, I have only agreed with Cristina, Queen of Sweden, when he said, “I like men, not because they are men, but because they are women.”
The boys are about to do now. Jim home. Mike and John will go to the house of John in Montana. I imagine that will continue telling their stories in themselves the entire drive there. And with them has gone I will have the memories of his adventures to make me laugh as I am engaged in the study of art making. Summer will be here soon.
