Puppy Bowl VIII

February 5, 2012 by staff

Puppy Bowl VIII, While most American TVs on Sunday will be tuned to the Patriots-Giants/Madonna/allegedly funny commercials extravaganza, there actually are other, hairier, cuter options available for your b**b-tubing pleasure …

Chief among them will be Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl VIII-yep, there have been eight of these-and it’s a huge ratings smash. According to its Wikipedia page (which seriously has waaay more Puppy Bowl info than you can possibly imagine), last year’s Puppy Bowl sucked in a whopping 9.2 million viewers.

Other fascinating furry factoids:

You didn’t think it was live, did you? The Puppy Bowl is usually taped in the fall.
All puppies in the Puppy Bowl are picked from animal shelters in several states. After the show, they’re shipped back home to (hopefully) be adopted.
58 puppies will be used in this year’s bowl. Each pup is only allowed to play for a half-hour because of the hot studio lights.
The bunny and chicken cheerleaders of PBs past have been replaced this year by the Piggy Pep Squad. Oink, there it isssssss!
