Provocateur – The Heart Of International Nightlife

Provocateur – The Heart Of International Nightlife, Provocateur: This new lounge/club at the foot of the Gansevoort touts itself as “The Heart of International Nightlife.” A provocative statement indeed, but—despite the overpriced, pretentious disaster inferred by said statement—this decadent lounge/club almost pulls it off.

Opened by the duo responsible for Stereo (and designed with help from the infamous guru of Zen venue chic, Lionel Ohayon of the W Hotels), Provocateur encompasses the outdoor garden and lounge of the former Garden of Ono, newly equipped for year-round pleasure.

This is because this garden (of “oh yeah?”) is open rain or shine, thanks to a newly added fancy glass roof (retractable tops are all the rage, you know). That’s not the only addition (one glance at the luminescent pair of angel wings juxtaposed behind a black catwalk proves that.)

But, if you liked things better the old way, you’ll be glad to know the ccktails are still overpriced, fruity club-goers still dance badly (think fists a-pumpin’), and bottle service is still the only secure means of entry. This is no empty provocation.
