Prince William County Schools, The Hampton City Schools with the administration of Phoebus High School, sincerely apologize to our greater community for the recent actions of some athletes Phoebus High School. The Hampton School Division has asked how it feels to be an appropriate punishment for those involved to take items belonging to the Battlefield High School players Saturday, December 11. Although the articles were quickly found and the staff handled the incident Phoebus with professionalism and sincere concern, the division in no way condones such acts. We are all aware that students can sometimes exercise poor judgments and engage in reckless acts. However we hope that the actions reckless and embarrassing than 4 or 5 players are in no way throw the dispersion of the team of Phoebus and many fine athletes who participate in the program.
Superintendent Dr. Linda Shifflett personally called the Prince William County and the Superintendent Battlefield High School Principal, to inform them of his consternation, and a sincere apology. In addition, head coach Stan Sexton Phoebus has apologized to the direction Battlefield High School and head coach as well. The administration has informed Battlefield Hampton school officials that they feel the matter has been dealt with appropriately and is a closed case. We want our community to know that we have presented detailed reports to the Virginia High School League, describing our actions.
We ask that our community not to let this one incident spot the wonderful programs we have at Phoebus High School and across our entire division.
