Possum NYC SubwayPossum NYC Subway, After word got out that an opossum had been found on a New York City subway car, many New Yorkers wondered what happened to it once the animal was removed.

Was it locked up at a shelter? Partying with Jay-Z?

The New York Times reports ( ) that the reality is less glamorous. The opossum was returned to the wild.

Startled riders aboard a D train spotted the marsupial curled up underneath a seat on Jan. 13.

The subway car was evacuated as officers wearing heavy gloves tried to remove it. When the opossum bared its teeth at them, animal control experts were called in.

The Times says the opossum had to wait in an empty subway car for nine hours before it was released into the woods.
