Poplar Bluff Missouri, The levee along the Black River outlet in the area of?? Poplar Bluff, Missouri, was violated in the south of the city on Tuesday morning, local police said.

To prepare for flash floods were expected, some ,000 people were evacuated on Monday. A total of 59 people were rescued from homes and cars within 90 minutes Monday night, said Poplar Bluff Police Capt. Mike McClain.

McClain said the dike along the river has been a sandbag to cover overruns in the city limits.

The storms and floods were the last in the climate of violence that has beaten much of the South in the middle of this month, killing seven people in Arkansas on Monday. Two weeks ago, more than 47 people were killed as storms ripped a long way from Oklahoma all the way to North Carolina.

Flood warnings on Monday prompted the evacuation of hundreds of people in Indiana, Kentucky and Missouri, after days of rain led to rivers cresting above flood stage, according to meteorologists.
