Pilot Trapped In Toilet In Midair
November 18, 2011 by staff
The captain of a Chatauqua Airlines flight was caught with his pants down when he became trapped in the men’s room as the plane was preparing to land.
His cries for help were answered by a passenger sitting in the front row of the plane who heard him banging on the door and hurried over to help.
The relieved pilot sent the man to the cckpit to alert the crew – but the alarmed co-pilot refused to let him in.
Instead, he radioed the control tower at LaGuardia airport in New York to alert them to a possible terror threat.
In a panicked exchange with air traffic control, obtained by the New York Post, the co-pilot said: “The captain disappeared in the back, and I have someone with a thick foreign accent trying to access the cckpit.”
Even after the Good Samaritan explained the captain’s predicament, the suspicious co-pilot continued: “What I’m being told is he’s stuck in the lav, and someone with a thick foreign accent is giving me a password to access the cckpit.”
“I’m not about to let him in.”
The crisis was only avoided when the pilot managed to force his way out of the bathroom and return to the controls, however fighter planes had already been alerted.
The captain reportedly reassured ground control “there is no issue, no threat.”
The embarrassing incident happened on board the New York-bound Chatauqua Airlines – which operates internally as Delta Airlines- flight from Asheville, North Carolina.
