Perrish Cox: Perrish Cox’s Rape Acquittal, A jury acquitted former Denver Broncos player Perrish Cox of sexual assault charges Friday in Castle Rock, Colo.

Cox sighed and hugged his attorney after the verdict was read.

The alleged victim let out an audible sigh and a cry and said: “Oh
my God, what’s happening?”

The six-man, six-woman jury met for about four hours Thursday and resumed deliberations Friday morning before assembling in the courtroom for the reading of the verdict.

Cox was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in September 2010 after a night of partying.

The alleged victim became pregnant, and prosecutors said DNA tests indicated Cox was the father.

The woman testified she believed she was drugged because she remembers little about what happened.

But Cox denied having sex with the woman and his lawyer disputed the DNA test results, suggesting they may have been contaminated.

Cox, who was charged with two counts of sexual assault, could have been sentenced to as much as life in prison.

Prosecutors said in their closing arguments that the evidence was straightforward, telling jurors the alleged victim told authorities she didn’t’ remember having sex the night she spent at Cox’s apartment, but that she became pregnant and that DNA indicated that Cox is the father.
