Penn State’s First 2013 Recruit

August 13, 2012 by

Penn State’s First 2013 Recruit, Penn State added to its 2013 recruiting class on Saturday as Woodson cornerback Jordan Smith, from Washington D.C., verbally committed to play for the Nittany Lions, several outlets reported. The 5-foot-10, 187-pound prospect, playing for Archbishop Carroll, recorded 64 tackles, had four sacks and picked off two passes last season. As a junior he recorded 65 tackles.

Smith held scholarship offers from Colorado, Kansas and Hawaii and had attended a Penn State skills camp this past June. Penn State is looking to regroup after a flurry of lost recruits and transfers following the NCAA’s announcement of crippling punishments, including a four-year postseason ban as a result of the Jerry Sandusky scandal and cover-up.

New head coach Bill O’Brien stressed to the media and public during this week’s media day that the goal of the university and program was to move forward. Smith’s commitment may be a small step toward that goal.
