Palm Beach County Property Appraiser

Palm Beach County Property Appraiser, Judges have great power and act as judges to determine whether a property is more valuable.

However, some judges are more likely to grant reductions than others. And both sides – the county assessors and property owners / tax representatives – have complained of incompetence, bias and conflicts of interest by some judges.

“I have cases where a tax representative and a judge, and I know I had dinner in the last week,”said Dan Hafner, who manages the funds for the Broward property appraiser.

Most of the reductions in value in Broward and Palm Beach are made by personnel from the county property appraisers, who agree with the owner or representative value tax is too high. If a dispute or the owner wish to avoid the county assessor, the appeal goes to a judge.

‘If we’re wrong, we will correct it,”said Broward Property Appraiser Lori Parrish. ” However, if we lose based on the incompetence of a judge, that’s another thing.”

The Sun Sentinel review decisions of the judges in Broward and Palm Beach between 2006 and 2008 and found a wide variation in the frequency with which benefit from a reduction. Judges milder reductions for nearly half the time while others only passed one of every 20.

“I have heard many times that if you do not [address] and we will be heard, we will do worse,”said Parrish.

Palm Beach County has “a completely different group of judges, many of whom never have done this,”said Property Appraiser Gary Nikolits.” They seem to have this propensity – things are bad, we will help taxpayers.”

The judges should be subject to the rules, including our own Reject the benefit of all cases that may have a conflict. They are selected and supervised by the county Value Adjustment Boards, composed of elected officials and citizens.

In Miami-Dade, the May Council took a judge to misrepresent your qualifications in your application.

In Broward, a judge with a real estate and assessment activities was issued a warning last year to distribute your business card to people who appear before him in the hearings.

And earlier this month, a lawyer in Broward board determined that a judge should have recused himself from ruling on an appeal by a law firm where she worked last year.
