November 21, 2011 by staff

Pakistan Bans Offensive Words, The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) wrote to mobile companies last week with a list of more than 1,500 English and Urdu words to be blocked, giving them seven days to implement the order.

Among the words on the ban list are ‘interc–rse’, ‘f-rt’, ‘br–st’, ‘idi-t’, ‘tamp-n’, ‘m-nkey cr-tch’, ‘h–tage’, ‘c-nd-m’, ‘h–dlights’ and ‘Je-us Chr–t’.

‘It’s a big issue, so it is being examined carefully from all points of view,’ said Anjum Nida Rahman from one mobile firm, Telenor Pakistan.

Today, mobile operators in the country said they were seeking further clarification from the PTA.
