Ousted ‘American Idol’ Finalist Speaks Out

Ousted ‘American Idol’ Finalist Speaks Out, Another female went home on American Idol Thursday night. Is it open season on females this season or was this just a fluke? Granted, Shannon Magrane’s ouster last week was justifiable. But there’s no way that Erika Van Pelt deserved to go before inferior male singers Heejun Han and DeAndre Brackensick.

Mentor Jimmy Iovine said Erika deserved to be at “the top of the batch,” but he had some harsh words for Heejun and DeAndre, who joined Erika in the bottom three.

Iovine said Heejun’s playful performance of “My Life” was “like four minutes of a bad Adam Sandler movie that goes right to DVD.”

Judge Steve Tyler was right to be angry, Iovine said: “I think he felt Heejun came out and disrespected the entire process. I think it’s gonna bite him in the butt.”

It’s tempting to think Heejun’s just a boy who wants to have fun, but “My Life” seemed clearly a calculated attempt to show he can do more than ballads.
