One Direction Up All Night

One Direction Up All Night, Members of the band One Direction, from left, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles. The British invasion of 2012 is fully upon us.
The first album from One Direction, a boy band that was formed on the Britain’s “X Factor,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. “Up All Night” sold 176,000 copies and gave One Direction the distinction of being the first British group to enter the chart at this position.
That’s right — they beat the Spice Girls. Not familiar with the One Direction? Allow me to introduce you to Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson.
The five guys — who are now between the ages of 18 and 20 — appeared separately on season seven on “The X Factor” and, at the suggestion of a judge, formed a group. They place third, but were signed to Syco Records and later Columbia Records.
“Up All Night” found huge success overseas, debuting at No. 2 on the U.K. Albums chart. The video for One Direction’s lead single “What Make You Beautiful” has been watched on YouTube over 75 million times.
