North Sea Gas Leak, An exclusion zone has been put in place around a North Sea oil and gas well after a “serious” gas leak – as more staff are removed as a precaution. Ships have been told not to sail within two miles of the Elgin platform and an air exclusion zone extends to three miles.
The platform, which has 238 workers and is 150 miles off the coast of Aberdeen, has been evacuated and the facility powered down.
The gas leak on the Elgin platform, operated by Total E & P UK, took place on Sunday.
In a statement, operators Total E & P UK has said that the leak is ongoing but the situation was stable.
“We continue to take all possible measures to try to identify the source and cause of the leak and to bring it under control.”
