Nick Clooney Arrested

Nick Clooney Arrested, Civil disobedience has never been quite so handsome. Hollywood hunk turned human rights activist George Clooney got himself cuffed in front of the Sudanese embassy in Washington Friday morning, where he, dad Nick and other activists were protesting alleged atrocities by the government’s regime.

The father-son team and Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) smiled as uniformed U.S. Secret Service police — responsible for local law enforcement outside embassies — politely restrained and led them off. Secret Service spokesman Max Milien said that Clooney, Moran, and activists including Ben Chavis and Martin Luther King III were charged with disorderly crossing of a police line — a misdemeanor — then transferred to the city’s Metro Police Department for processing.

Fresh from a visit to the war-ravaged African nation, Clooney testified this week before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to the actions of Sudanese President President Omar al-Bashir.

Hussein faces 41 counts of crimes against humanity for atrocities committed in Sudan’s Darfur region. Today, Clooney testified, Hussein blocks food aid from starving citizens and deliberately attacks civilians in the country’s conflict with South Sudan. Celebrity cynics take note: last summer’s arrest of movie mermaid and eco-activist Daryl Hannah outside the White House drew attention to the controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline, which has become election-year hot potato for the Obama Administration.
