Nick Charles CNNNick Charles CNN, Announcer Nick Charles, who became the first anchor of CNN, sports, has died after a fight of two years with bladder cancer. He was 64.

The cable network based in Atlanta, said Charles died in Santa Fe, NM He had been with the network since its inception in 1980.

CNN Worldwide President Jim Walton said Saturday that Charles helped CNN on the map with their intelligence, style and passion.

Walton said in a statement that his passing is a loss of CNN, the world of sport and for the fans and friends everywhere.
