Former Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown is now a Philadelphia Eagle, becoming a weapon in a team that clearly seems to have intended to charge for a Super Bowl. Brown agreed to a one-year deal Tuesday afternoon.
“Ronnie is an all-around rider with a versatile skill set,” said Howie Roseman Eagles GM said in a statement. “He can run the ball, catch it, and does it very well in pass protection.’ll add some good size to our backfield and he is a man of good conduct. We believe it will be a huge compliment LeSean (McCoy) and other young people back on this team that we really like. You can never have enough good runners in this league and we’re happy to have Ronnie join us. ”
Brown is a bigger version (about 20 pounds) of McCoy, but not so fast. The second-round pick in 2005, Brown can run inside and out, is a reliable receiver – that’s averaged 31 catches per season during his six-year career – and was the trigger for the Wildcat package once-feared Miami. After Brown, McCoy, quarterback Michael Vick and WRs DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin in the field while the Eagles could give any number of options scheme.
The biggest blow to Brown is its susceptibility to injury, has missed 16 games since 2007. The Pro Bowl one time only one season of 1,000 yards rushing.
Roseman Brown acquisition is the latest in a flurry of moves that have led to CB Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, DE Jason Babin, DT Cullen Jenkins and QB Vince Young of Philadelphia, who last won an NFL title in 1960.
