News Channel 5, UK free-to-air broadcaster Channel 5 is among a handful of buyers of The Walking Dead, the zombie series that was a huge success in small groups for the cable channels AMC in the U.S. and FX, which international human rights law to pay. Five took the rights of free-to-air in the United Kingdom under an agreement concluded by the distribution subsidiary of Entertainment One (eOne). In France, Orange has taken the premium pay television rights in Israel and DBS picked up pay TV rights.
EOne said he was close to sealing more deals for the series, which is produced by Frank Darabont and based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman. In the U.S. the show has been the biggest success of the AMC, providing ratings much better than its other original series of large, including Mad Men and Breaking Bad. It was the most watched series of basic cable ever in the U.S. in the 18-49 demos. Fox International Channels has launched the international series this fall and has also yielded good numbers in the world.
