New York & Security, Fears of terrorist reprisals after the death of al-Qaeda, Osama bin Laden at the hands of U.S. agents has led to airports in the New York area to tighten security, officials told the German Press Agency DPA on Monday.

A spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, told dpa that the increased security measures had been agreed shortly after the U.S. Barack Obama President announced the death of Bin Laden, on Sunday night.

And boost security at the John F. Kennedy, Newark Liberty and LaGuardia airports, and officials had also strengthened controls on bridges and tunnels to channel traffic to the metropolis of 15 million people.

The spokesman declined to comment on the exact number of police, snipers and security dogs that had been called to provide extra security.
