Nevada Election Results 2010, LAS VEGAS (AP) – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, survived a fierce challenge Tea Party stars Sharron Angle on Tuesday to win a fifth term, giving the reason for the White House to celebrate a night of sweeping Democratic losses in Congress.

It was not easy. A mid-year, Reid appeared headed to defeat as Nevada suffered with the worst unemployment in the country, foreclosure rates and bankruptcy. But he told voters that no one could match his influence on Capitol Hill and warned that Angle would usher in an era when Social Security and Medicare would be in the pit.

Reid promised to return the state of prosperity, and represents a conservative marginal angle whose policies hurt the families of Nevada.

A victory would have made the angle of its first female senator from Nevada and Reid won the indignity of being the first leader of the Senate majority lose reelection since Ernest W. McFarland of Arizona in 1952.

Reid was a surprise win in a race where a succession of polls showing a tie and acknowledged he was in trouble. However, Reid was the winner on Tuesday by a margin of 6 points in the Republican-leaning Washoe County, Angle’s home turf.

The race played against a turbulent national political year. The tea party was against the beltway, insider external front, the hand of age against the new face.

He faced the stern, Reid soft-spoken, never very popular in the country, against the unpolished, gaffe-prone Angulo, sometimes, whose unconventional ideas included in a drug rehabilitation program devised by the prisoners founder L. Ron Hubbard. He took pride in breaking with the convention, but away from the Republicans who eventually embraced.

Reid platform was power. The boxer, 71 years old, once touted its ability to bring federal money to his home state – no one could do more, he argued – and played up his role recovery massive development of CityCenter Las Vegas Strip, in which pressured bankers to keep money flowing, and his hand in the murder of a nuclear dump at Yucca Mountain. He had the support of the casino industry powerful, and union members who work in them.

But Angulo Reid was part of the problem – get a Congress government led by the Democrats in expanding the places not to go, while the acceleration of spending and debt. Reid called it “the poster child of what has gone wrong in America.”
