Nelson Mandela Death
January 15, 2011 by staff
Nelson Mandela Death, Every day we don’t know why twitter spread rumors of Celebrity death; jokes are hot in the media (social) this season. If in December 2010, the jokes were more oriented towards the actors, who all mysteriously “died” while skiing in Switzerland, the ski resort of Zermatt, the focus in January seems to have changed several important personalities, including Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa (1994-1999), whose name has become a trend on Twitter for all the wrong reasons today: first twitter fake death in 2011.
RIP Nelson Mandela is the subject of research Twitter now, and fortunately not many users fall for it, even if reading the words is enough for you puzzle for a moment or two:
Just had a heart attack when I saw the TT RIP Nelson Mandela. Just to discover that this is false. Whoever started this TT is sick – tweeted @ Nelisabrown, and many other users share the same reaction.
“RIP NELSON MANDELA” Twitter needs a lie detector and needs to block the trends that are seriously wrong. It is an insult to a man living and true. – @ Failwhalequotes tweeted.
Other users, however, are confused and there are even those who believe the rumors:
Nelson Mandela is gone? There is a tendency RIP here, but we see nothing new on the sky – wonders @ MartianDelights
RIP Nelson Mandela, we have considered your business for years in AlNoorIntSchool @ – @ says ShouqM
There are a number of matters transpiring in this story, and perhaps most important is how someone’s name can easily be used and tarnished by people with nothing better to do. This is an important reputation at Twitter – although the challenge is daunting, as the social network cannot censor public opinion. But maybe it will be easier, and the credibility of the social network are to win, if a clear set of TOS is in place for this kind of situation.
Twitter should not be used to disperse the lies, and undermine the reputation of others. Rumors like the one we know today should never transpire from a network that has such broad scope.
