With negotiations stalled and no further talks planned, a source told the Daily News that the league will make the announcement Tuesday. The notice shall include at least 102 games through November 28, in addition to the 100 games that are canceled, the newspaper said.
The latest round of talks, facilitated by a federal mediator, not achieved significant results when it was completed on Thursday.
Players said the talks broke down because of a “take it or leave it” attitude from the owners.
“I hate to use the phrase” The gloves are off. However, for all purposes, the gloves are off, “said association vice president players Maurice Evans last week.” With the press conference that they (the owners) had – not want to get into he said, she said, but that was not very accurate as long as is evident in the room we were here, we. were negotiations that were making progress to end all of a sudden -. that should speak volumes in itself. ”
Previously, NBA commissioner David Stern had said he believed that all the games until Christmas Day were in danger if an agreement can not be reached last week.
George Cohen, the federal mediator, sounded pessimistic when negotiations broke off, saying that “no useful purpose would be served by requesting the parties to continue the mediation process at this time.”
“We are aware of the ramifications of where we are,” said Adam Silver Deputy Commissioner at that time. “We are sad, on behalf of the party.”
