National Enquirer Whitney Houston Casket Photo, The National Enquirer has sparked controversy by publishing a photo alleged to show Whitney Houston in her coffin.
The US tabloid ran on its cover a close-up image apparently depicting the late singer lying in a golden casket, accompanied by the headline: “Whitney: Her Last Photo.”
The publication also promised to relay “all the details” of her burial, claiming that she was laid to rest “in jewelry worth $500,000″, “wore her favorite purple dress” and “had gold slippers on her feet”.
The image was claimed to have been taken at Houston’s private viewing at the Whigham funeral home in Newark, New Jersey on February 17. No photographer has been identified.
Other media outlets and their audiences have expressed outrage at the National Enquirer for publishing the photo, with The Washington Post saying that “a line has been crossed”, Perez Hilton branding the action as a “tasteless, insensitive, morbid thing to do” and Gossip Cop saying that it “represents the very worst of predatory paparazzi culture”.
