National Chocolate Covered Anything Day, . “The Simpsons” made its debut as a standalone show on Dec. 17, 1989, and along the way the yellow family has taken over pop culture. Which should make it easy to have a “Simpsons” night, if you’re looking for something to do. Play “Simpsons” Monopoly, Clue or Uno, watch DVDs of the TV show or movie, serve “Duff” beer, or whatever else you can think of.
2. The big movies opening this week are “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” rated PG-13, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law; “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked,” rated G; and “Carnage,” R, starring Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly.
3. Friday is National Chocolate-Covered Anything Day, one of the best holidays of the year. Mmm, chocolate. … You can make hot chocolate or chocolate chip cookies, eat chocolate candy or ice cream, or celebrate any way you’d like.
4. Still don’t have all your holiday shopping done? You might want to hit the stores this weekend. Check the newspaper for sales and coupons.
5. If you’re looking for a cheap way to entertain your family, there’s nothing better than driving around to look at Christmas lights. Check the newspaper for a guide to lights, or just drive and enjoy!
