Napster Founders Ready Airtime Social Media Startup

Fanning and Parker are raising money for a company called airtime, which is thought to be a video chat service similar to Chatroulette, but with a social network that brings.
They have already raised to 8 million (5 million pounds) to start the service, with investors including film star Ashton Kutcher, Justin Bieber agent Scott Braun and Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am. Airtime is expected to go live in late 2011.
Parker, who has previously made a copy of Facebook and Plaxo, TechCrunch said that airtime is designed to take advantage of all the advances in social media for the past ten years.
In an interview with the technology blog last week, Parker said the service would help people escape the “rigid and restrictive,” the structure of networks of ‘friends’ on sites like Facebook.
Fanning, who met while working at Parker’s music Napster peer-to-peer pioneer, said the service would be “a lot universal, namely the introduction of people, destroying people.”
It is believed that airtime will introduce people to others who share your interests, but do not know already. Like Chatroulette, it is likely that users will interact airtime mostly via webcam.
Fanning will be chief executive of airtime and Parker – who was played by Justin Timberlake in the film of Facebook social network – will be the CEO.
