Nancy Pelosi Hospital, House, Nancy Pelosi, minority leader was hospitalized in Rome this morning and released after feeling discomfort following a weekend in Afghanistan, her office said today.
The former chairman of the House in Italy with a bipartisan congressional delegation to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the country abruptly canceled a meeting with Italian Minister of Defense to obtain medical care for what the news agency ANSA described as a “blackout.”
“After several flights yesterday in Afghanistan, and a long flight back to Italy who arrived early this morning, Leader Pelosi was not feeling well,” Pelosi said in a press office. “This morning in Rome, the head was advised to visit a clinic and the nearest health facility was a hospital.”
Pelosi later returned to her hotel and resumed her schedule, her staff. Later that afternoon the delegation of the United States was to attend a concert in the Italian Parliament as part of the celebrations.
“Thank you all for your good wishes – had a very fruitful trip to Afghanistan and I am now back meetings in Italy,” Pelosi said on Twitter.
The U.S. embassy in Rome said it was aware of reports of hospitalization Pelosi, but made no further comment.
Over the weekend Pelosi and bipartisan delegation visited Kabul, Afghanistan to meet President Hamid Karzai, U.S. troops and military officials.
