Mulligan Never Let Me, Carey Mulligan has revealed how she fought for her role in Shame. The actress plays extrovert Sissy Sullivan in Steve McQueen’s sex addiction drama, which opens in the UK today.
But she said that on reading the script, she didn’t think she was in with a a chance of landing the role. She told Metro: “I thought, ‘They’ll never let me play that’. I’ve been in An Education and Never Let Me Go. She’s so far removed from anything I’ve done.”
Describing her first meeting with writer/director McQueen, Mulligan added: “Steve kept trying to leave the meeting and I sat him back on his chair and said, ‘What do I need to do to get this job?’ I told him I felt a passionate desire to play the part.”
On her character, the sister of Michael Fassbender’s sex addict Brandon, she continued: “She was really exciting. Getting to play an extrovert and exhi*****nist was a relief.”
