However, Joss has finished principal filming Much Ado About Nothing, a super-secret film loosely based on the work of William Shakespeare.

The film features frequent Whedon, Nathan Fillion including Firefly, Amy Acker, Fran Krantz, Tom Lenk and Sean Maher. Little is known about the film (only the image above), but is rumored to have been a low-cost production, as well as his web series Dr. Horrible Sing-Along Blog. The news of this top secret film was leaked via Twitter, of all places.

Actor Fillion Twitter that “Oh, it’s real. Very. Very. Real.” The site says: “Photos Bellwether is proud to announce the completion of principal photography” and says the project is “a film Joss Whedon based on a play. “costume designer Shawna Trpcic share the photo below of her and Fillion on set, and Twitter that” Joss Whedon & Shakespeare: Two knows that they know very well together? ”

The production was also confirmed by actor Sean Maher, who tweeted, “Surprise! We just finished today …” and “I promise that is the real deal and we are very excited about it!”

The Wrap confirmed with sources that “Joss Whedon has directed, adapted, cast and shot an entire movie – an adaptation of Shakespeare’s” Much Ado About Nothing “- in secret, TheWrap has learned.”

Despite being well known for his mastery of geeks, Whedon is actually a big fan of Shakespeare. In a recent roundtable to discuss his role in TeamUp Whedon Marvel Avengers, Tom Hiddleston was asked to compare with Kenneth Branaugh Whedon, the director’s first film in Thor and an important actor in Shakespeare’s plays.

“What about the two of them is that they do share more of the former could imagine,” said Hiddleston. “Oddly. Joss is a big fan of Shakespeare and Kenneth is a kind of closet fanboy comic book.”
