MLB All-Star Game, Pirate’s center fielder Andrew McCutchen and Reds third baseman Scott Rolen has been included in the National League All-Star list as substitutes for the Braves’ Chipper Jones and Ryan Braun Brewers.
Braun has been out with a persistent strain in his left calf and has not played in a week. He was the leading vote getter in the NL. In 83 games, batting .320 Braun with 16 homers and 62.
Jones was placed on the disabled list with a torn medial meniscus in his right knee. After undergoing minor surgery, Jones will probably miss three to four weeks. In 77 games this season, batting .259 with eight Jones homers and 46.
McCutchen was widely regarded as having been an All-Star snub, when the lists were announced last Sunday but Braun injury allowed for 24 years to make his first trip to the Midsummer Classic. In 86 games, the Pirates center fielder is batting .289 with 13 homers and 49.
Rolen is in the midst of a mediocre season in the third, but the hot corner has seen many injuries this season. In 60 games, Rolen is hitting .244 with five homers and 35.
