Miss Angola, Leila Lopes, won the title of Miss Universe 2011 last night at the parade in S? O Paulo, Brazil. Miss USA Alyssa Campanella, 21 years old with red hair from California, who is a former model in Las Vegas, is expected to be among the top handful of finalists and had a large fan base. But it was not.
Leila Lopes, a business student, made history by winning the first “Miss Universe” title in her country, and not only shows a great beauty, but also great confidence.
“Thank God I’m very pleased with the way God created me and would not change anything,” said the 25-year-old during one of the questions posed to her during the competition, which asked what would change their appearance. “I am a woman with inner beauty. I have acquired many of the wonderful principles of my family and I have the intention to continue these for the rest of my life.”
Lopes hopes to help her impoverished the country and will focus its efforts in the fight against HIV.
“I’ve worked with several social causes. I work with poor children, I work in the fight against HIV. I work to protect the elderly and I have to do whatever my country needs,” he said Tuesday. “I think now as Miss Universe, I will be able to do more.”
Lopes three beauty tips? Get lots of sleep, use sunscreen even on cloudy days, and drinking plenty of water.
Of the other contestants in Miss Universe 2011, age 23, Miss Ukraine Olesia Stefanko was the first finalist. Before the crown was passed, the 16 finalists included participants from France, Kosovo, Colombia, China, Angola, Australia, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Holland, USA, Ukraine, Panama, Costa Rica, Portugal, Philippines and Venezuela.
