Misfits Coming To US?, “Misfits” is coming to America. According to Vulture, television mogul Josh Schwartz plans to adapt the British series of the critically acclaimed “Misfits” to the American public.
Schwartz is the man behind the television series of two very successful “The OC” and “Gossip Girl”, which have turned to a young audience. With credits like this, “Misfits” seems to be a good choice for him … but this series of UK peeps translate well to America? Well, it seems so.
If you have not seen “Misfits”, which is really missing out. The show is all kinds of awesome – the first season of “Heroes” is the United Kingdom The show revolves around a group of teenagers with working class to attain great power during an electrical storm “Skins” .. The show is very witty and entertaining all-around. The first series won the BAFTA for Best Drama Series in 2010.
It may be recalled train wreck-MTV series “Skins”. The remake could not connect to the American public and almost immediately got canceled. However, this new version feels different. Schwartz has partnered with the UK “Misfits” creator Howard Overman to write the translation of U.S.. What these writers have in common is that they are not afraid to show sex, drugs and alcohol. Obviously the UK is much more open about adult content to air on U.S. television, but Schwartz has been an American television writer pushing the envelope, at least on this end.
The American public has already shown some interest in “Misfits”. Hulu started airing the first season of the series and the results show a growing fan base. Schwartz and Overman to write a pilot in the coming months, and expect a network to pick up later this year or early 2012.
Being a fan of the series, this is good news, but only because Schwartz is involved. He has developed a good example with the fan base (including “Chuck”). It feels like a perfect marriage, because it dealt with these kinds of characters – teenagers crazy, wild.
