Do you rejoice when the MPAA rated R Blue Valentine instead of his initials, and unnecessary prohibitive NC-17? Then you probably do not work for the Parents Television Council! “The inherent defects of the MPAA ratings system was put in full-frontal screen this week with Blue Valentine [...] the new qualification may be correct or it may be incorrect. We do not know because we do not screen the film. What we do know is this: all the integrity and legitimacy of the MPAA ratings system has been compromised. There is no transparency, there is no consistency, and no accountability – unless you’re a producer of rich who can afford to hire the biggest legal guns in the nation and lead a massive public relations campaign “The statement goes on to mention a solution. This mess: stricter assessments to protect children. Because if The Simpsons has taught us anything, it is that everything is always on children. [THR]
Speaking of children! Miley Cyrus celebrated her 18th birthday by being filmed smoking a bong. According to a “source connected with Miley,” the contents of that bong were in fact a “natural herb called salvia, which has psychedelic qualities.” Kids these days. For what it’s worth, the possession of salvia is legal in California. Click on the link to the video. [TMZ]
