Mike Quade Fired, The Chicago Cubs, Mike Quade was fired Wednesday in the first major move since Theo Epstein became president of baseball operations team.

Quade said Epstein would not return after traveling to Florida to tell him in person. Quade called an “outstanding baseball man,” but said it was time for a change.

Quade, 54, got the job after a hearing in the final 37 games of the 2010 season, replacing Lou Piniella, on an interim basis. The Cubs were 24-13 and was elected into the Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg for the latest season. But the Cubs finished fifth in the Central Division of the National League with a record of 71-91.

Epstein Sandberg spoke on Wednesday and told him that was not in the plans of the Cubs. reported that the Cardinals have requested and received permission to interview the Phillies for Sandberg opening.

A potential candidate for Chicago could be Terry Francona.

Co-owner Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban, and Pittsburgh Penguins owner Ron Burkle co-have been mentioned as possibilities. Asian investors have been investigated. The former agent Dennis Gilbert, a friend of White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf, will bring together a group.
