Mike Pence, The Republic of Indiana, Mike Pence was the best choice for president among conservative activists who attended the values voters this weekend at the Summit in Washington, pushing the field of the most recognized figures in the trial of Republican support grassroots level.

Pence, chairman of the House Republican Conference, got 24% of the vote, beating the 2009 winners of the straw poll, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who received 22%. Each word in the meeting on Friday, as third place, Mitt Romney, who received 13% of the vote.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who spoke on Saturday, received 10%. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who was not involved, finished fifth with 7% distant.

Of the nearly 2,000 people who registered for the conference, 723 voted in the straw poll. The family of the Research Council president Tony Perkins, whose group organized the event, said the results were “descriptive of candidates that voters will see the value.”

“We are far from the election,” he said. But Pence represents qualities and character that many American voters are looking for. ”

Perkins to explain Palin’s underwhelming performance on the fact that she did not speak to the group in the face. But he said it could show that voters see her as a dilettante that the conservatives rallies together, “rather than be elected leader.

“It’s fine words,” he said. “She said many people think. But many people often realize that we should not say what I think.

Straw polls like this, it is not reliable indicators of survival of potential candidates for election. Other Republicans seen as possible candidates are lagging behind in this area, Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, which is not present, requested that his name be removed from the ballot.

The survey also asked the voters of the main problems, which are determined from the candidates they support. Abortion is the main determinant for public spending, the abolition of health reform, protection of religious freedom and national security.

In his speech earlier Saturday, Gingrich is indicates what it described as the two greatest threats to the nation: “secular social machine” and radical Islamic extremism.

“We’re at a point where creating slides in politics, such devastating consequences in reality are fundamentally opposed to the survival of America as we know,” said Gingrich.

He also directed against members of the Obama administration, the allocation of Atty. General Eric H. Holder, Jr., and John Brennan, deputy national security adviser, as the most “dangerous.”

Gingrich made the criticism of some members of his own party, in particular, Senator Lisa Murkowski and the Republic of Mike Castillo, two moderate members of Congress who lost in the tea party candidates in the primaries, the Senate. Christine O’Donnell will win the Senate race in Delaware, he predicted, and the blockade must support her former opponent. Murkowski, at the time, was “fundamentally fraud,” trying to keep it in the Alaska senator in writing to the campaign, which announced late Friday.

Palin did not attend, preferring instead to address another group shows its possible plans for the future. On Friday, he gave a speech at the Ronald Reagan Dinner in Iowa Republican Party.
